Follow Our Tips to Make Sure Your Pool is Party Ready

The Fourth of July is almost here! One of the greatest advantages of having your backyard oasis is sharing it with friends and family. Maybe you've already planned your BBQ menu, guest list, and drinks… but have you thought about making sure your pool is ready?

Three Days before the Party

Step 1 – Brush your pool

Brush down the walls and floor of the pool. This will remove any dirt or debris that may have formed. You will want your pump running when you do this. Go slow and work towards the main drain.

Step 2 – Balance your water

With all the rain we've had in Michigan lately, alkalinity and pH levels are off in most pools. You can test your water at home with test strips or bring us a sample. Our chemistry staff will tell you exactly what you need to balance your water. (Take advantage of our FREE water testing!)

Step 3 – Check your filter pressure

You can lower the pressure in your filter by backwashing. For above ground pools, you can clean your filter with a hose.

Step 4 – Use Water Clarifier and Algicide

Both of these chemicals will ensure your water is crystal clear. Clarifier binds smaller particles floating in the water together and allows for easier filtration. Your filter can then remove the particles that might be clouding the water. Algicide will prevent any algae growth from starting. (No one wants to jump in a green pool!)

Step 5 – Check water is still balance

One last check of your pool water chemistry will make sure you are ready to go. Add any additional chemicals if needed.

Step 6 – Vacuum

Whether you are using an auto-cleaner or hose, vacuum the pool the day before and clean your skimmer baskets.

Step 7 – Skim

Skim any debris that might have dropped in overnight and check skimmer baskets. You should be ready to sit back and relax with friends and family. Make sure you keep an eye on young swimmers – we want everyone to have a safe, and happy 4th of July.

Step 8 – Shock

Lotions, makeup, and much more is left behind in your water after a pool party. Shocking your pool will help remove any bacteria and ensure your pool stays crystal clear.
